The Joy Bus

The Joy Bus Diner is a Not for Profit organization whose sole purpose is to relieve the daily struggles of homebound cancer patients with a fresh Chef Inspired meal and a friendly face. Our vision is to elevate the livelihood of our patrons with the joy of culinary sustenance. Founded in 2011 and named in honor of our dear friend Joy who struggled with the painstaking side-effects of cancer, ultimately losing her life to this horrific disease. Joy suffered from cancer in the 4 “L” s (in Joy’s words) “Lungs, Liver, Lymphoids and Loveries”.

Her drive and determination are inspirational to all those who fight her same battle and if a hot meal and a little compassion can brighten her day then it’s the least we can all do as humans and as a part of a community. Millions of cancer patients are left to fend for themselves during this turning point in their lives. The Joy Bus will relieve the burden put on families during this time by providing healthy meals specified to meet our patron’s needs. The Joy Bus delivers not only quality meals to your doorstep but compassion and a smiling face.

Founded and operated by Jennifer Caraway, The Joy Bus Diner™ is the culmination of her five-plus year effort to improve the lives of local cancer patients through the power of a hand delivered meal and face-to-face interaction. Inspired by a friend named Joy who had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Caraway started dropping off home-cooked dinners and chatting with local cancer patients in need of a little good cheer. Over time it expanded into Valley-wide non-profit organization named The Joy Bus, which collects and cooks donated food for volunteers to deliver to patients around the Valley in need of a friendly face and an open ear. Most important, Caraway says, she’s been embraced by the local food community, with Crooked Sky Farms and others donating fresh food, while chefs including Tracy Dempsey (Tracy Dempsey’s Originals), Gio Osso (Virtu Honest Craft, Nico) and Bernie Kantak (Citizen Public House, The Gladly) all serve on The Joy Bus Board of Directors, and Fox Restaurant Concepts donating both financial support and culinary expertise.

The Sun Dog Rescue

Reich Realty is also proud to support Valley of The Sun Dog Rescue – VOTSDR is a registered non-profit organization which specializes in American Pittbulls & American Staffordshire Terriers. All breeds are accepted. Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue is a NO KILL, all breeds rescue and adoption service and has been a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization since the year 2000. They are a family run organization operating out of their homes with the help of foster care providers and volunteers. With a great working staff they rescue all breeds of dogs that are ill, injured, maimed, abandoned or simply unwanted. The dogs are obtained from the various animal shelters in the area, as well as those animals given up by private citizens. Their Mission Statement is to rescue abandoned, injured or abused dogs, rehabilitate them, have them vaccinated, spayed or neutered and help them find their forever home. We also strive to increase public awareness about the gentler, humane side of a “Bully” breed.

Adoption Process – Although they specialize in American Pitbull and American Staffordshire Terriers, all dog breeds in need are accepted with open arms, evaluated and treated as necessary and adopted to private homes.

Prospective adopters are required to fill out an in depth application and adoption contract, Revised-Adoption-questionnaire-.pdf (valleyofthesundogrescue.org) , submit to home checks for a period of one year, as well as pay an adoption fee for the animal. Additionally, there are monetary penalties that must be agreed to for any mistreatment of the adopted animal. We also reserve the right to reclaim the animal in the event of mistreatment. Further, we reserve the right to pursue any individuals for mistreatment or neglect of the adopted animal through the court system or law enforcement agencies. All of the above must be read, initialed and the entire document signed prior to any adoption. We also have additional and specific requirements of the prospective adopters and their families to adopt a “bully” breed that must be met.
